We mourn the loss of a genius – Lee Alexander McQueen
British fashion designer Alexander McQueen was discovered dead on the morning of the 12th of February 2010 after taking his own life.
The fashion industry was left reeling after the 40-year-old’s suicide, which comes just days after the death of his beloved mother, Joyce.
It is also just three years since his close friend, style guru Isabella Blow – who plucked him from obscurity and helped him become a star – killed herself.
McQueen, CBE and four time winner of the British Designer of the Year award, was very close to his mother, and had taken her death a mere few days before he took his own life very badly.
His designs were wearable yet awe-inspiring, accessible but covetable. There seemed to be no limits to his endless creativity and fashion genius.
His death comes just days before London Fashion Week is due to start and mere weeks before he was due to reveal his new collection at Paris Fashion Week on the 9th of March. RIP.
